THE OLD COURSE AT ONTEORA CLUB: A Photo Essay
By A.D. Lubow
A short narrative on the mystical mountain top golf course at Onteora Club. It may well have been here at Onteora in 1890 that Samuel Clemens coined the phrase: “Golf is a good walk spoiled.” Who knows? We do know that Native Americans called the land “hills of the sky.” Indeed, here the clouds are part terrain, and the hills are part heaven. It’s all connected. Nothing is spoiled at all.
“No one could have written more beautiful lines about the OC@OC. Just wonderful!” — Mark Patterson
“Evokes all the colorful memories of a course that is halfway to heaven…and on some days, all the way there.” — Anne van der Does
