Rathborne (1854-1938) began his literary career around 1868, going on to write The Doctor Jack series consisting of 60 adventure books. Other works include Man From Wall Street , Mynheer Joe , numerous juvenile-age books, and several aviation works. His short stories regularly appeared in various papers. According to the NIU biography, Rathborne had approximately 20 pseudonyms, including the names of Herbert Carter, Gordon Stewart, and Oliver Lee Clifton.
