A man of many talents, Andrew Lang (1844-1912) was an anthropologist, folklorist, historian, journalist, poet, and author of numerous nonfiction and fiction books, essays, and pamphlets on topical issues of his time. Lang is known for his color-based Fairy Book series (1889-1910), and for writing his own fairytales, such as Prince Ricardo of Pantoufila (1863). He was awarded Doctorates in Classics from Oxford and the University of St. Andrews and from 1865-1874 served as Fellow of Merton College.
