Giorgio Vasari was an Italian artist and historian in the sixteenth century and is considered the first art historian. His landmark work, The Lives of the Most Excellent Painters, Sculptors, and Architects, was originally published in Italy in 1550. There have been numerous editions and versions written over the centuries, this edition was published in 1896.
