By: Laura Louise | Edited By: Mary Beth Britten | Illustrated By: Hallie G.
This is a story of K9 Fitzgerald, who -against the odds -tries and tries again to be the best he can be. Throughout the story, he overcomes bullies and starts his own adventure to help small children conquer their bullies and insecurities.
The story begins with policeman Officer Tommy and his wife Marian the Librarian, going to the shelter to adopt a dog. They fall in love with a big black German Shepherd with a short front leg and they decide to name him Fitzgerald.
Officer Tommy trains Fitzgerald in their backyard and decides to sign him up for the K9 Academy. During his first day at camp , the other canines make fun of Fitzgerald for his limp, and he loses the courage to continue.
Officer Tommy then takes Fitzgerald to a cobbler , and this cobbler makes Fitzgerald a shoe to take away his limp. With his newfound confidence, Fitzgerald decides to go back to the K9 Academy and shows the other canines how he overcame his disability.
On the day of the K9 Academy graduation, Fitzgerald is named “top dog” of the entire class. This is where he gets his name “K9 Fitzgerald .” When leaving the ceremony K9 Fitzgerald overhears a little boy crying on the nearby baseball field-presumably caused by a bully.
This is the start of a new adventure for our protagonist, K9 Fitzgerald!
