Excerpt from Preface:In bringing forward yet another book on the subject which, for want of a brief comprehensive title, I have been compelled to describe as Ions, Electrons, and Ionizing Radiations it seems desirable to indicate briefly the purpose it is intended to rulfil. It is not a popular exposition of the "new Physics," nor is it a compendious synopsis of the whole subject. The subject is in fact now so extensive that it is doubtful if such a treatise could be produced in less than half a dozen volumes. The present volume is intended solely as a text-book from which students who have been grounded in the more elementary portions of Physics might obtain a systematic knowledge of its latest developments.
