French Method

What is the French intensive method of gardening? And who invented this method? Neither answer is simple nor is it straightforward. In modern (2014) terms, the French intensive horticultural system is considered to have been part of the French market trade, circa 1500. This garden practice continued and flourished into the early 1900s. Around 1967 Alan Chadwick, a Master Gardener associated with the University of California at Santa Cruz, revitalized and transformed this method, which is now often referred to as Biodynamic French Intensive gardening.
