When Samuel Simmins wrote A Modern Bee-Farm and Its Economic Management in 1914, he was relying upon his 40 years of beekeeping experience. Discussing one of the goals of this book, he says, "I endeavor to show how a reasonable profit may be secured from a few acres of grassland."And he adds that "[in] the case of fruit farming... the culture of bees [raised] on the spot cannot be overestimated."
